Course Objective:

The intent of this course is to introduce programming using Java. Programming topics in this course are program design
and development, implementation, test and debug. Specific topics in Java programming include data classes, variables,
operators, expressions, statements, methods, iteration and control, arrays, strings, file streams, basics of OOP.

2. Latest version of a Java compiler.
3. IDE (Note: Eclipse will be used in class, but you may choose any IDE)

Evaluation:

• Tests: Three tests, including a final exam, will be given during the semester.
  Test 1 will count 25% of your final grade.
  Test 2 counts 30%
  Test 3 counts 30% of the final grade.
  
  
• Homework: Homework assignments are an important part of this course. It is essential that students complete ALL assigned programs.
  Assigned programs will consist of Java programming exercises and it is expected that concepts from these assignments
  are well understood. Java programming assignments are available on-line. Programs must be completed as an individual effort.
  Credit will not be given to programs that look similar to other turned in work. Uncompiled programs will not receive more
  than half credit. Homework will count for 15% of your final grade with the lowest homework score dropped.
  

Grading Scale:

Policies

• Normal university policies concerning incomplete, etc.
• Make-up for tests requires either 2 weeks of advance notice (in case of planned absence), or a medical statement (in case of unforeseen problem).
• All homework assignments are due at the start of class on the day they are due. Assignments that are not printed before the start of class will not be accepted.
• No extra credit work will be given during the semester.
• Any academic dishonesty will result in a failing grade.
